A New Season is Here!

Yep. It's time for another blog post. And even though I knew it was coming, I'm late posting it anyway. Will I ever be on time? *sigh*

Our Crazy Year So Far

My hope was to have this prepped, ready to go by yesterday evening. Here's the rundown of what's been happening in our family since the turn of the new year.

  • First week of January - husband gets laid off from most lucrative job he's ever had
  • Within days - oldest daughter is in her first major wreck (as a passenger and while far enough away from home we couldn't actually get there to be with her...thankfully, she and her friends were ok after some time had passed)
  • The next week - hitherto unplanned trip to visit with family who are close to where oldest daughter is staying so we can pick her up when she's ready to come home
  • the next week - pick up oldest daughter and head home the following day
  • First week of February - husband surrenders to the ministry
  • The very next morning - we learn husband's brother has passed away unexpectedly
  • Within the next week - make yet another hitherto unplanned trip to stay with husband's family for his brother's memorial service (still unreal, at this point, honestly)
  • During that week with family - drive oldest daughter back to her friend's place and drop her off there.
  • The next day - return home
  • Within three days - daughter is in her second major wreck and I have to wonder if the people in Tennessee really know how to drive...or is it just in that area where her friend lives? o.O (she and the driver have minor injuries compared to the other friend who was in the passenger seat up front)
Do you see how crazy life has been for us...and I think for the people who caused the two wrecks...and the family mourning a loved one's passing? And in the middle of all this coming and going on this crazy emotional roller coaster ride that is life, school must continue and life does go on. We do our best and press on.

I'm already ready for spring and I eagerly eat up the warmer days we get during a typical Louisiana winter. As I'm typing this, I know many people in our area are out in the glorious sunshine, drunk out of their minds while they celebrate Mardi Gras. I'm super happy to stay home today, though. I am craving the peace and quiet, and it's no wonder.

Winter Fades, Time to Plant Seeds!

Yesterday, Ro and I planted the seeds that will hopefully grow to supply us with a wide variety of fruits and veggies, as well as some medicinal and edible flowers. I would love to create a self-sufficient farm with the property we have. Goodness knows there's enough room to do it. I doubt there are enough hands, though, and my dad, who is the resident green thumb, isn't getting any younger. He's passing on more and more of the gardening things to me...and my black thumbs...yes, multiple.

We planted two kinds of tomatoes, red bell peppers, cucumbers, chard, carrots, lettuce, nasturtium, chamomile, St. John's wort, squash, and pak choi. I'm praying that neither me nor the dirt gnats destroy the chances of these seeds sprouting and flourishing.

Though it seems the light in our world gets dimmer as time passes on, my hope rests in the Mighty One of Israel. Wars and rumors of wars...I knew that was coming because I've read the Word and it's no secret what humankind does when they are put in positions of power, and given more money than they have sense.

I won't let that dimming light discourage me. The light of G*d shines brightly in my heart and He's all my family and I need.

May you be encouraged today. I have a quote for you from Edmund Burke...

Welcoming April 2022 at Magniflorious Private Homeschool Academy

Welcome back! I'm so happy to be able to report our little seedlings, well some of them, have survived and are now planted in a small garden patch outside. Turks Turban Squash looks like it might survive and thrive, but we may have to replant cucumbers, nasturtium flowers, and sunflowers. Hopefully, today's predicted rain will encourage them to perk up. And we also hope to deter whatever animal tried to dig up my hard work yesterday. Y'all! I should've stretched before trying to work in the garden. XD More Curriculum Changes We started the year working on Chemistry with PACE workbooks. Those didn't work so well for Ro's learning perception. So we switched her to a workbook (The World of Chemistry) which allowed her to read sections and answer questions pertaining to shorter sections. There were fewer problems per lesson for her to solve. This made it less overwhelming for her.  To sum up: If the curriculum you chose for your student isn't working, don't...

Well, Here We Go!

Magniflorious Private Home School Academy blog has a new home. We'll give Blogger a go for a while. Hopefully, this host doesn't start creating ad posts at random and sharing them as blog posts on my blog. :/ I'm going to look for the positives and do my best to keep this blog going as long as I can. It's still in progress so I hope you'll bear with me while I keep adding elements.    via GIPHY  So What's New? Besides this blog's new home and a new book in the works for me, my husband is getting ready to start a new job. Transitions are always difficult, so please keep us in your prayers.  So far, we haven't had even one meeting of our mother/daughter club this year. Between people fighting yuckies and unexpected errands, it's been difficult for us to get together but we do keep trying.  A Breath of Hope  And now for a breath of hope from the Bible Scriptures taken from The Scriptures 2009 - photo is linked to their website ***** As always, we do n...

Wow! Senior Year Has Been and Gone

For months, apparently, I forgot I posted here. To be fair, though, senior year was tough for our youngest in some ways which we hadn't really had to deal with while teaching the other two. Add to that my increasingly scattered mind, too many changes to keep track of, and going back to work at the sewing shop, and there was no way I was going to remember to post here. But we did manage to work through senior year successfully and our young woman is learning how to make her way in the adult realm.  We were supposed to go get her senior pictures in a little town just southwest of us, but we were never able to do it. I hate that life kept getting in the way.  She also requested a graduation tassel, and that hasn't happened yet, but I'm taking care of that today. She doesn't really ask for much.  I also still need to get her final report card, transcript and diploma printed out. Seriously, y'all, this year was a doozy if ever there was one!  We both so relieved to ...
